Thank you to everyone who attended the virtual screening of Lupita Concio’s digitally restored and remastered Minsa’y Isang Gamu-Gamo (Once a Moth) and accompanying Q&A last week, from June 23-June 25!

SDFC would especially like to extend our gratitude to the award-winning writer of the film, Marina Feleo Gonzalez, and Philippine cinema icon, Gloria Sevilla, for their time, reflection, and insight provided by each during their Q&A interviews. Marina Feleo Gonzalez stated in her interview with us that “a film is forever” — a description apt for Minsa’y Isang Gamu-Gamo in 2021. For although the film was made in 1976, its courageous critique of US colonialism in the Philippines is a message which resonates far beyond the borders of the Philippines and to the present day.

This screening was in partnership with The Filipino Channel and ABS-CBN Film Restoration/Sagip Pelikula. Community Partner: County of San Diego Filipino-American Employees’ Association. We are deeply honored to have partnered with amazing organizations who are dedicated to bringing important stories to our community. Maraming salamat! 💛

We hope to see everyone at our future events! To remain up to date on all SDFC events and news, be sure to sign up for our SDFC E-Newsletter.
