In Celebration of San Diego Filipino Cinema’s

First Year Anniversary

Visions & Voices: Emerging Filipinx Filmmakers

December 7, 2019 | 1PM | New Americans Museum

“It’s such a surreal feeling to be part of a panel with all these amazing filmmakers especially since I started my filmmaking journey last January of 2019. I had a wonderful time sharing my experiences as a Filipina woman filmmaker and my hopes for the future of filmmaking and storytelling. It was also wonderful to hear the perspectives of my fellow panelists in their experiences and just how universal our goals and challenges were. I believe events like these are so important to the community because we want to inspire others to also know that they have a voice that should be shared. Representation, especially in this time and age, is immensely important and we need more people who look like us to candidly share our stories through film and discussion. Thank you San Diego Filipino Cinema for giving filmmakers like myself a platform to have candid discussions with our community.” – San Diego filmmaker and Visions & Voices panelist, Leah Lombos

Perspective Film Series: Films by Emerging Filipinx Filmmakers

December 6-7 | THE LOT Liberty Station

To commemorate and celebrate San Diego Filipino Cinema’s first year anniversary, we’ve teamed up with New Americans Museum in bringing you six compelling films made by emerging Filipino filmmakers from California and Manila under our Perspective Film Series: Films by Emerging Filipino Filmmakers. On day one, Alyssa Lerner’s Bubbles and Wester Demandante’s Kaaway opened the screening of feature neo-noir NEOMANILA by young prolific filmmaker Mikhail Red. On day two, award-winning feature animation Manang Biring by Manila-based animator/filmmaker Carl Joseph Papa headlined the night with Drama Del Rosario’s BAFTA grant recipient short documentary In This Family and Leah Lombos’s advanced screening of her debut narrative short Kain Na (Let’s Eat).
Many thanks to our volunteers and audience for coming out to support despite the rain and the busy holiday season!
This two-day cinematic treat was made possible with the support of The City of San Diego, TFC at the Movies, Manalastas Realty, Cinematografo, and TBA Studios.
